What Do You Get The Guy Who Has Everything?

Baby Bro,

Since we don't get much time together anymore, and anything I buy you will be stuffed in a box in a few months anyway, I'd like to take the opportunity to make some memories instead and host an all-expenses-paid day of eats and drinks in the City of Brotherly Love during your stay in early January.

Sorry Matt, it's January in Philly... no T on this trip.

9AM - Gym Session @ LA Fitness

We'll start the day with a real confidence booster by letting you whoop my ass in the gym.  I imagine it will look and sound something like this...

...or this...

With the goal being this...

Where have all the musscllless gooonnneee???

We'll then head back to my place to shower up before heading out to conquer our next physical challenge... FOOD.

12PM - Tommy DiNic's @ Reading Terminal Market

Philadelphia is obviously known for its cheesesteaks, but the real sandwich secret is closely guarded by locals, hidden inside Reading Terminal Market.  DiNic's Roast Pork Sandwich is gaining notoreity all over the country, and Adam Richman of Man V. Food recently named it "The Best Sandwich In America".

After we finish our monster sandwiches, it's time we satiate our mental appetite and quench the thirst for knowledge.

1:30PM - American Spirits Prohibition Exhibit

Sure, you and I could go to a bar and have a few beers, but what's new and exciting about that?  After we visit our next stop, you'll truly understand the privilege of being able to order a drink in public on a Friday night.
Prohibition is one of the most fascinating stories ever to make its way into the U.S. Constitution (and back out again).  It's an aspect of history that's often forgotten or misinterpreted amongst the other news of the time, but make no mistake about it, Prohibition played a large hand in the Great Depression, the strength of organized crime, and the moral definition of America, which we still see ripples of today.
The American Spirits Prohibition Exhibit puts us at the epicenter of the movement in a fun and entertaining way.  Interactive videos, immersive environments, and actual artifacts will transport us back to the 20's to bear witness to soapbox denouncements, the rise of Al Capone, and the inception of federal law enforcement as we know it.  If we're lucky, we may even get into a Speak Easy.

To offset the guns and booze and alleviate the time travel jet lag, our next stop will keep us in the early 1900's for a frozen experience unlike any other.

The Franklin Fountain

3PM - Ice Cream @ Franklin Fountain

Franklin Fountain is an old-fashioned ice cream saloon that serves up some of the biggest and most delectable concoctions I've ever heard of.  I hope the dowtime during the exhibit will allow us to digest the DiNic's, because these orders are going to be a meal unto themselves.

This is where we separate the men from the boys...

    ...Back to the future...

3:30PM - Hawthorne's Cafe

Our final stop on this journey will be to one of my favorite spots in Philly, Hawthorne's Cafe.  This place has everything-- a fireplace, a bottle shop, some of the best eats you can find... From here, we'll enjoy whatever we still have room for, whether it's the Hawthorne's Burger...

... or one of the great beers they have available...

4:30PM - NFL Wildcard Games

Fat and happy, we'll retire to my place to catch the afternoon playoff games and enjoy the rest of the day.

We can discuss any additions/revisions to the itinerary as the date gets closer.  Be sure to visit the links at the top of the page for more info on each of our stops.

I hope you're as pumped as I am to embark on this gluttonous adventure.

Merry Christmas Matt!

Love,
Jeff
